This hands free leash is adjustable and we use it for connecting to the dogs standard 6 foot leash to create a longer more versatile training leash. (KAS video)
Multi-Functional Training Leash
Getting a versatile multi-functional leash with a leash attachment at both ends makes for a more controlled walking experience.
These leashes are the perfect line for dragging on the ground. They don't get bogged down with water. They also slip through and around obstacles without getting hung up. Additionally they don't pick up debris and give your hands splinters.
Nothing beats the durability, flexibility, and comfort in your hand than a standard leather leash. Ideally you want a 6' leash no shorter for best handling.
This harness is the best designed harness for training. It is extremely adjustable and features a neck/collar clip so that you don't have to put it over the dogs head making it also ideal for shy/sensitive dogs.
This is a pull over the head harness. It comes in fun collars and offers a comfortable fit that allows the dog to move freely. As with almost all our harness recommendations this harness features a front/chest 'D' ring for dogs that are heavy pullers.
This harness is best for older dogs or dogs who might be a bit more fragile around the neck like greyhounds. The shape and padding on this harness will help take the pressure off your dogs neck and better distribute it around the shoulders. Not necessarily suited for training or hard pullers.
Ideal for small dogs. This harness doesn't fit all dog body shapes but it is by far my favorite harness for little guys. Especially older or more fragile small dogs. This harness is comfortable and allows the support for pulling a small dog up off the ground without hurting them in an emergency situation.
Muzzle Movement Muzzles
Muzzles for many dogs means freedom. This is an essential tool for working with dogs who eat things they shouldn't or have a bite hisotry. Whatever the reason it's worth noting that muzzles are a beautiful peace of equipment and all dogs whould be muzzle trained.
(Tracker collar only. No shock!)
Even when you spend countless hours practicing recall sometimes things go wrong. If you are like me and hike and camp with your dog out of cell range than you NEED this collar. This collar (as long as you keep it charged) is your peace of mind and insurance you will get your dog back.
Thick band limited slip (or martingale) collar with a quick release clip
Martingale or limited slip can be needed when dealing with a dog that slips out of their collar or harness. To ensure that you are not doing damage to your dogs neck I prefer to get the thickest collar possible and padded. Also it's important to consider trying to find a collar with a quick release esspesially if your dog is going to be wearing it during play with other dogs or when off leash. That way if they get caught on something you can quickly release the collar from them.
I recomend my clients carry a long range citronalla spray if they are walking in areas where they are likely to come accross other dogs. Even an overly friendly dog charging your shy, frieghtened, or reactive dog can really set your training back. Use this spray to defend your dog from oncoming dogs and show your dog that your got their back and they don't have to worry any more.
You can choose a training bag of any size but we most recommend a large bag that you can fit all or at least most of your dogs daily rations of food into the bag. This way you are always ready to reinforce their good choices. We like this bag in particular because of the silicone bag insert keeping your training bag clean for a long time to come.
For ease of teaching your dog or puppy all sorts of foundational skills you will definitely want to invest in a training platform or also called a station. This is one of the most powerful training tools you can buy.
Consider a KLIMB for more versatile use like in body conditioning, grooming, and for larger dogs.
This is not a mandatory training tool. Really we don't have any mandatory training tools, but if you want to nerd out and get really fancy with your dog training this simple tech can be a great tool and it's absolutely a joy to play with your dog using one of these.
